Job description
Our client is looking for an experienced Communications Advisor to work within the Policy and Markets area as part of Debt Management. The ideal candidate will have relevant prior experience from working in a press office (ideally within the public sector) and be adept at handling and communicating sensitive, time-critical information as well as skilled at building and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders relevant to the role.
Familiarity with financial markets and related government policy areas would be advantageous but there will be plenty of opportunity to learn on the job. This should be an exciting assignment, occurring at a time when the success of the government's financing programmes will be vitally important to the national interest.
Principal Responsibilities
Organise and participate in external communications with the media, particularly CEO interviews with the press, handling liaison with press and media contacts and developing appropriate and effective working relationships with these contacts
Develop systematic processes for the management of internal and external stakeholder relationships, particularly the press and media
Support a senior management review of the communications function.
Prepare briefings on news items and matters relevant to the client's debt and cash management mandates
Provide management information on the performance of the client's communications effort
Contribute to the clients workstreams as required, with a particular focus on stakeholder engagement.
Experience
Essential: Practical experience with managing highly time-critical and sensitive external communications particularly with press and media contacts, ideally derived from working in a UK government departmental press office or equivalent
Desirable: Experience of working in a UK government departmental press office and/or within the financial sector
Desirable: Practical experience of policy advisory work, ideally from working on policy matters related to financial markets, fiscal policy, monetary policy and/or economics
Skills and Knowledge
Proven ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders (internal and external) with a view to building long term relationships and credibly representing the client with stakeholders
Excellent analytical skills with a highly structured, organised, and meticulous approach to preparation of finished work and record keeping as evidenced in previous experience
Strong inter-personal skills with ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with colleagues at all levels
