What is the opportunity?

The Senior Social Media Manager sits within the marketing team, reporting into the Head of Digital & CRM. We’re looking for an individual with a self-starter mentality, who from the get-go will be able to have a clear vision for organic growth, set clear strategies and KPIs, and report confidently on progress in order to really transform FutureLearn’s organic social presence. 

You’ll have full autonomy and ownership of the FutureLearn social channels, being required to set channel specific growth and engagement plans that will make an impact. FutureLearn is a credible marketplace within the higher education space, the Senior Social Media Manager will need to act as a brand guardian ensuring communication stays on point, whilst having a solid knowledge of the degree landscape and our partners.

The Senior Social Media Manager will be responsible for all social media strategy and implementation, community engagement, UGC, attending of events and graduations alongside any filming days for social content as required. You’ll be the go-to for all social media requests and projects, lead in key meetings, put together insightful documentation and reporting, alongside present findings and opportunities with authority, confidence and clarity. It will be important for the Senior Social Media Manager to manage new partner launches, shine spotlights on high priority degrees or qualifications on the FutureLearn platform, showcase newness coming to the marketplace and create educational, inspiring and engaging content that supports users throughout their career and drives interest in what FutureLearn can offer.

What does success look like:
  • From the get-go you’ll lead the social media channels and strategy with autonomy, setting clear KPIs and growth plans for each social channel.
  • Be the go-to for all Social Media projects and requests, leading the organic social strategy with a clear roadmap to improve engagement and online visibility. Own the social platforms, ensuring high security standards are maintained at all times and jumping on new platforms as required and appropriate for the FutureLearn brand.
  • Create monthly content to ensure the social content schedule is inspirational, impactful and effective; using insight, knowledge of social platforms, audience trends and learner objectives to craft posts that resonate, whilst being on-brand. Work closely with the SEO Manager to amplify blog content and tap into in-demand subject areas.
  • Be confident using a content creation design tool to create on-brand assets, whilst being able to adapt quickly to the FutureLearn tone of voice to write supporting copy. Work closely with the Creative Studio for any additional briefs required on the social channels and update templates as necessary to keep content fresh.
  • Efficient use of scheduling tools to manage content workflow, with an excellent QA process to check posts have gone live correctly without issues. All URLs should be tracked correctly to ensure we have solid granular performance data to analyse trends and understand what’s working.
  • Work closely with the Head of Digital & CRM to align Paid Social approaches and test content as required. Monitor paid campaigns and community manage the comments appropriately.
  • Work closely with the Community team to ensure all social media customer service enquiries are being answered within appropriate timings, and improve workflows where necessary to improve our responses. Keep the Community team updated with the latest campaigns and competitions, holding regular bi-weekly meetings.
  • Strong understanding of the FutureLearn tone of voice and brand positioning, to actively conduct community engagement on a daily basis, getting involved in learner conversations in a positive manner. Share any of these insights with the wider marketing team to drive forward product portfolio or tech advancements on the FutureLearn platform.
  • Attend selected degree-partner graduations to get social media footage and case studies for social channels and the website. Be the lead on learner or partner video shoots as required, to gain content for our channels that can then be repurposed onto an array of social platforms.
  • Lead UGC or influencer projects to contract, brief and source resonating content for our audiences. Brief clearly to ensure feedback is minimised where possible and to ensure FutureLearn are getting maximum value out of this content created.
  • Activate campaigns and competitions on our social channels that drive awareness and engagement around key partners, products or new offerings.
  • Regularly report on Social Media successes and share with wider stakeholders, whilst also maintaining expertise on tech/platform changes and Social Media trends. Be the authority on our social audiences, delivering insight into the team to drive forward brand strategy.
  • Establish key performance milestones with the Marketing Director to ensure all organic social channels are laddering up to the overall business goals and brand positioning.
  • Be comfortable leading an array of projects, being organised with meeting invites and agendas, follow up actions and project documentation.

What you will bring to the table:
  • At least 4 years Social Media experience, with experience across both B2C and B2B audiences. Working in an educational or marketplace environment is desirable.
  • A self-starter attitude, driven to improve organic social performance from the get-go.
  • Hands-on experience of multiple Social Media platforms and analysis tools, including Meta, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, X, Looker, Google Analytics, Figma, In-Design, and scheduling tools such as Hootsuite, Sprout Social or Flick.
  • Demonstrable experience in creating engaging content with design and copywriting experience. 
  • Has prior experience of managing UGC or Influencers previously, with experience on how that content can be appropriately used across social channels.
  • Excellent copywriting and communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Confident project management skills, with the ability to travel around the UK to key events and graduations as required for filming opportunities.
  • Strong time management and organisational skills to manage workflows across multiple platforms.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and maintain strong relationships across different departments.
